Brandon is currently studying at Xavier University (LA) in New Orleans. His research interest are focused on Green Chemistry so he came to Cincinnati and worked with Professor James Mack on synthesizing polyaromatic hydrocarbons using mechanochemistry. Traditionally long linear PAHs are insoluble or only soluble in hazardous solvents such as benzene or benzene derivatives. Brandon was looking to alleviate that problem by using solvent-free mechanochemistry to development a more sustainable method to synthesize this important group of compounds.

By using a solventless systems to carry out organic synthesis, Brandon can avoid working with harmful reagents and carrying out tedious operations while synthesing complex organic compounds.
Below is a video of Brandon talking about his experience at Cincinnati.

Kyana came from Alabama A&M to join the UCChemREU Summer 2017
She worked with Dylan Shields from Gudmundsdottir research group and together they was very successful in studying sustainable solid-state photoreactions. Kyana will be presenting her work at the ACS National Meeting in New Orleans this spring.
Here Kyana and Dylan are pictured togehter at the end of REU program in front of Kyana's poster. Kyana was very producitve in her research and we are in the process of writing up her research for publication. We will add a link to her publication
Below is video of Kyana explaining in her own words what she thought about the experience she gained being a part of the REU program at UC.
